From another cool site on the Sonoma Coast, the 2017 Pinot Noir Durell Vineyard was brought up with 27% stems and spent 15 months in 40% new barrels. Bing cherries, blackberries, forest floor, smoked earth, and hints of violets all emerge the glass and it’s medium-bodied, has a great core of sweet fruit, integrated oak, and outstanding length. One of the darker, earthier wines in the lineup, it has beautiful purity and is another brilliant wine I’d be happy to drink.

The 2017 Pinot Noir Durell Vineyard was made using 27% whole cluster and aged 15 months in 40% new French oak. Pale ruby-purple, it opens with some tarry/rubbery reduction that gives way to fresh cranberries, Bing cherries, blood orange, violet and underbrush with other accenting aromas quickly tumbling from the glass: crushed strawberries, sweet spices, Rooibos tea. It’s solidly built with a medium weight and grainy frame supported by loads of fruit in the mouth and well-woven freshness on the very long, spiced finish. This merits another year in bottle. 466 cases produced.
Complex nose with plenty of spicy and toasty oak on offer with a rich core of brambly red and dark cherries. The palate has a sweet-spice and fleshy feel with a concentrated and fresh delivery of ripe red cherries and berries. Smooth and supple. Lots to like here. Drink now.
