Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2024-2033, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2023

The 2021 Pinot Noir Savoy from Cliff Lede's Anderson Valley estate, is a dark, surprisingly brooding wine. Black cherry, plum, licorice, mocha, incense and dried flowers are all amplified. Large scaled and ample, the Savoy is a bit surprising for its intensity, yet all the elements are so well balanced. Low yields in 2021 contribute to the wine's richness.

A youthful rich ruby with a hint of purple, the 2021 Pinot Noir Savoy is floral and perfumed with baby powder, black cherry, and lavender. Medium to full-bodied, it reveals a touch of iron-rich earth and is meaty, with ripe fruit, fine tannins, and a long finish. With a bit of pithy texture and ripe cherry fruit throughout, I would hold this another year or two and drink over the following 10-15 years. Eric Sussman began Radio-Coteau in 2002, focusing on cool-climate sites along the north Sonoma Coast and the Anderson Valley in Mendocino. Eric purchased the current winery home in 2012, and they currently have 22 acres under vine across from the Charles Heintz Vineyard as well as six acres of apples from which they produce a hard cider. Marking their 22nd vintage, they are currently producing biodynamically farmed Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Zinfandel and have been Demeter certified since 2018. Eric spent several vintages in France prior to coming to California, working for Baron Philippe de Rothschild in Bordeaux, as well as Domaine Comte Armand and Domaine Jacques Prieur in Burgundy, and his wines certainly carry an Old World sensibility. All the wines undergo native fermentations and are bottled and racked in-house without fining or filtration.
