Note di degustazione
Bouchard’s Genevrières comes from two separate plots. The first is on the steeper slope with lots of exposure, ripening earlier, bringing generosity, dried fruit flavours and nutty notes to the palate. The other plot is on very rocky soil and at a higher altitude, adding zesty citrus notes as well as a textural elegance, which offsets the natural richness of the site. This was certainly one of the best Premier Cru Chardonnays from Bouchard in 2020 – floral, fragrant with citrus rind and riper pineapple notes. The wine starts juicy and round, but there is so much intensity on the palate, and it ends with such focus and tension. This is fantastically balanced, lifted and long.

The 2020 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru has a complex and engaging bouquet, quintessentially Meursault with hazelnut and grilled walnuts, just a touch of white linen in the background. Fine delineation and though the oak needs a few months to integrate fully. The palate is well-balanced with a slightly oily textured opening. Spicier in style, this gains depth towards the finish, where there is just a touch of warmth. But overall, this works. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
Tank sample. Attractive stony fruit with a red-apple-skin note on the nose. Oak is dominant on the palate, then apple. Pithy, super-young with a rich intensity – a stone-fruit note on the dry finish. (AC)
