Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2021-2031, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2022

The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has aged beautifully. It shows the intensely savory profile of the year but also has plenty of richness and texture, along with the balance to see it aged for another decade plus. I would continue to cellar the 2011, as it still has quite a bit of baby fat. Inky dark fruit, grilled herbs, chocolate menthol and pine build with a bit of time in the glass. Production was 1,500 cases, down by about 40%. I loved the 2011 when I tasted it eight years ago, and feel the exact same way today.

Gorgeous earthiness here, with forest floor and ripe blackcurrant-jam aromas. Lots of bordelais credentials here, but with fruit intensity that is 100% Californian. Impressive length and complexity – shows that mature Napa Cabernet can compete with the best of Bordeaux – although high alcohol does unbalance the finish a bit. (RH)

Bright red-ruby. Aromas of currant, leather and mocha are complemented by smoky, spicy oak. Good intensity to the currant and spicy oak flavors, along with an herbal edge and a suggestion of stewed tomato. A bit pinched compared to the richer vintages here, but the firmly tannic finish shows good persistence.

Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2016-2031, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2013

Staglin's 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon might very well turn out to be one of the best wines of the year. Layered and supple, with no hard edges, the 2011 impresses for its silkiness and overall balance. Dark red/blackish fruits, flowers, lavender, tobacco, grilled herbs. and mint meld together beautifully in the glass. The 2011 isn't a blockbuster, but it is endowed with stunning textural elegance and class. Floral and spiced notes develop in the glass, adding lift and brightness. Production is down sharply in 2011. Staglin bottled 1,500 cases of the Cabernet rather than the more typical 2,300. The 2011 is 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.
