Shirley Roy's 2014 Proprietary Red has turned out beautifully. Dark, sumptuous and highly expressive, the 2014 is laced with the essence of dark red cherry, plum, spice and new leather. Drink this soft succulent red over the next handful of years. The blend is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot.

The 2014 Proprietary Red Estate is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot aged 17 months in 85% new French oak. The wine has terrific fruit, including loads of blackcurrants, blackberry and licorice along with hints of truffle and camphor. The lushness of this vintage is brilliantly displayed in a vibrant, plum, succulent wine that has roundness, gentle tannins, and an appealing, sexy style. Drink it over the next 15-20 years.
The 2014 Proprietary Red shows a bit more energy and aromatic lift than I am used to seeing in Shirley Roy's reds. Dark red and bluish fruit, flowers, spices and crushed rocks are some of the signatures. Vibrant and pulsating with energy, the 2014 has the potential to develop into a real gem. The significant presence of Merlot in the blend gives the Proprietary Red a bit more overt richness than the Cabernet Sauvignon.
