The 2021 Pinot Noir Big Hill has fragrant scents of cranberry, raspberry and blueberry with nuances of tea leaves, juniper and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate has a silky frame, vibrant acidity, impressively concentrated wild berry flavors and a long, ethereal finish with tremendous floral perfume. It deserves several more years in bottle to unwind. (EB) 95+

Pale ruby-purple, the 2019 Pinot Noir Big Hill offers spicy tea leaves, licorice, earth, bergamot and iron, with top notes of floral perfume. The palate is plush, silky and super fresh with intense, spicy flavor layers and a long, uplifted finish. Its intensity, ripe tannins and bright freshness suggest this will be very long-lived in the cellar.
The 2019 Pinot Noir Big Hill is dense, deep and powerful. Dark red and purplish berry fruit are front and center in a potent yet inward wine that impresses from the outset. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2019 is going to need a number of years to come together. The Big Hill is a blend of Rochioli and Calera Pinot grown in rocky soils. Whole clusters (12%) add aromatic intensity without dominating the balance. (AG)
