The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Cemetery (94% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest equal parts Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot) comes from the well-known Cemetery Vineyard in St. Helena. A terrific bouquet of acacia flowers, blueberries and blackberries is followed by a layered, opulent, rich, fleshy wine with loads of fruit, sweet tannin and excellent purity as well as length. (16.1% alcohol) Bright, deep ruby. Deep, roasted black fruit nose shows a liqueur-like quality. Then suave, deep and almost surprisingly sappy, with lovely energy and lift to the gravelly dark fruit, spice and mineral flavors. This boasts a terrific core of fruit and a piquant flavor of fruity peppercorn. Firm acids give clarity to this very deep wine. From a vineyard farmed by David Abreu.
(94% cabernet sauvignon; 16.1% alcohol) Good ruby-red. Very fresh, fruit-driven aromas of cassis, blueberry, violet and licorice. Concentrated, primary and powerful, with chunky, porty fruit enlivened by penetrating acids and complicated by a saline nuance. Still a bit youthfully grapey, but tightly wound today and dominated by its structure. The dark cherry and chocolate finishing flavors are firmed by brisk acidity, which Behrens says is all natural.
