Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2022-2035, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Mar 2023

The 2018 Chardonnay shows a hint of toasty, honeyed development on the nose, highlighting the ripe tangerine and citrus notes. Maybe the plumpest and most generous of the vintages tasted on this occasion, this medium-bodied effort remains bright and crisp, seamlessly marrying those sensations with a ripe, silky texture.

Volcanic soils. Fermented and aged in barrel, puncheon and foudre with 10% new French oak. 12 months’ ageing in oak. So different from the Kutch Trout Gulch, none of that reductive character, much more peachy with just a hint of oak spice. Full and rounded in the mouth, a little bit floral but with a backbone of citrus freshness to balance the generous fruit. Full bodied but not in the least heavy. Long and flavourful with a sour freshness to finish. (JH)

The 2018 Chardonnay is an attractive wine, but it is also stylistically a bit different from some of the wines of the past. Creamy and silky in feel, with distinctly tropical notes. I am used to seeing wines with more structure. This is an especially airy, perfumed, easygoing style.
