2004 Pax Syrah Alder Springs Vineyard

(a blend of numerous blocks from this superb vineyard) Full ruby color. Enticing nose combines dark raspberry, a whiff of apricot and black pepper. Suave and sweet in the mouth; less obviously powerful than the Terraces example but distinctly less brutal as well. Less concentrated but more pliant and more drinkable. This, too, is quite young and calls for a year or two of cellaring.
