The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a lovely, open, welcoming bouquet of red cherry, wild strawberry, orange blossom and light marmalade scents that seem to gain intensity with a few swirls of the glass. The poised, harmonious palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. A complex, slightly earthy finish leaves brown spices lingering on the aftertaste. This is a divine expression of both appellation and vintage. Bon vin ! Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2015 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots from the Mugneret sisters is glorious, offering up a deep and complex bouquet of raspberry, plum, dark spice, wood smoke, black chocolate and grilled squab. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and expansive, with a supple frame of tannin, a deep core of succulently ripe fruit and a long, intense and youthfully tight-knit finish. This has great potential and will amply reward the patient.
The 2015 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Chaignots, aged in 45% new oak but in different combination of cooperages to the Chambolle-Musigny cuvées, has a very intense bouquet with layers of cassis, blueberry and raspberry coulis, just a hint of orange blossom in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with silky smooth tannin, a suggestion of game in the background, though it does not impose upon the copious sweet blue and black fruit. This is a more extravagant les Chaignots compared to recent vintages, but still utterly delectable.
