A barrel selection of the top lots, Chappellet's 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill offers scents of mint, camphor, pencil shavings and cassis. While full-bodied and silky, it still comes across as reasonably tight, with more aging potential still in reserve. It's compelling evidence that site, weather and winemaking came together in harmony this vintage.

Ripe and rich with currants, slightly dried fruits and just a hint of walnuts. Touch of oxidation. Full and chewy. Big and bold at the end. Lots of wood coming out in the finish. More structure and depth. Drink now.
(14.9% alcohol): Saturated bright ruby. Some distinctly (over?)ripe porty black cherry and dark fruits on the nose, along with sexy mocha, rose petal and exotic balsamic oak notes. Smooth and fine-grained but a bit porty and medicinal in character. In a very ripe, slightly aggressive style, conveying strong fruit and no shortage of sweetness. I wanted more depth, though. A bit clenched, inky and musclebound on the finish, which features dusty, tongue-coating tannins.
