FINE+RARE Tasting Note

Deep colour. Spice, cassis with touch of menthol, herbaceous notes even though fully ripe, dark chocolate, violets, cloves – focused/ serious/ brooding fruit. Lovely backbone, mouthwatering freshness, energy, punch. Tannins abundant, fresh and structured. Very even set. Nice breadth and freshness on the palate lovely density to the tannins, so balanced and bursting with energy. The Pauillac minerality coming through beautifully. Quintessential Pauillac.

83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot. 41 hl/ha. Deep purple-black colour. Juicy and exuberant with dark-fruit, floral and graphite notes. Hint of vanilla oak as well. Tannins firm behind. Structured and expressive. Better balance than 2018 but not quite the class of 2020. (JL)

This wine is a little closed, but it shows fleshiness, richness power and opulence. Aromas of sweet spices from the wood, but they should integrate in the next three years. Ripe, but with a juicy, broad and long finish. 83% cabernet sauvignon and 17% merlot. 14.5% alcohol. Drink from 2029. From a vertical tasting at the winery.

Not far off the 2018, the 2019 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is deeply hued, with a concentrated, yet weightless style. Offering notes of red and black currants, spicy, tobacco, and graphite, with some classic Pauillac lead pencil, this richly textured, balanced, full-bodied effort has fine tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish.
