Tasted blind. Deep ruby. Cured meats on quite a toasty nose – yet there is some briary fruit underneath. Fairly chunky and grainy on the palate, there are notes of maraschino cherry and clove. Quite a hard bite of tannin on the back end, together with strong scents of charred wood. (TP)

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Pouget opens with tons of cedar aromas and notes of earth and tobacco with a core of warm cassis, plum preserves and earth plus herbs and menthol wafts. It is way too oaky in the mouth, marring the texture and swamping the fruit on the finish.
The 2017 Pouget has a well defined bouquet with bright red berry fruit laced with tobacco and woodland aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, well integrated oak and a harmonious and surprisingly long finish. This is a very commendable 2017 from this overlooked Margaux property and comes recommended.
