Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2024-2030, Eric Guido, Vinous, Jun 2022

The 2019 Teroldego Sgarzon takes its time opening in the glass, but it is worth the wait, as crushed ashen stones, black currants and exotic savory spices form its bouquet. As dark and brooding as it is aromatically, this is surprisingly energetic but also potent on the palate. A mix of zesty acids and tart wild berry fruits collide, creating tension and contrasts. Sweet tannins and minerals grip the senses through the long and dramatic finale, promising years of development. The 2019 Sgarzon is intense yet also playful. I can’t wait to revisit this vintage in a few years’ time.

Punteggio 17.5/20 · Da bere 2023-2028, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Dec 2021

Full bottle 1,476 g. Demeter certified. Teroldego grown on the Campo Rotaliano in Valle dell’Adige, northern Italy . Fermented and aged eight months on skins in Spanish tinajas (amphorae). Deep crimson, very similar to the colour of the 2020, ie no sign this is a year older. The aroma is a little deeper and more intense compared with the 2020, perhaps less delicately aromatic, a touch more savoury. There is still that dark-red fruit character, more dark (but not sweet) cherry, and the floral note is still there but it is deeper and needs to be found rather than offering itself so freely. Tannins are slightly firmer but still with that super-fine grain. There's tension and energy and a sense of life waiting to explode. Gently chewy texture and mouth-wateringly fresh on the end. Succulent. Amazing length.  (JH)
