The shade cloth and fruiting-zone misters deployed here to prevent desiccation seem to have done their job. Futo's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon 5500 features deep, dark cassis and black cherry fruit, easily married to rich, earthy, savory notes and plenty of charred oak. Medium to full-bodied, this densely concentrated, intense wine finishes with ripe tannins and superb length. Give it a few years in the cellar and enjoy it over the next two decades.

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon 5500 is a heady, bombastic wine. A blast of black fruit, leather, licorice, incense and chocolate makes a strong opening impression. This is an especially opulent, flamboyant wine from Tom Futo's Stags Leap property. Today, the tannins are pretty bruising. It will be interesting to see how this develops. This opens beautifully with air.
