Blueish crimson. Evolved claret style nose. A bit weedy and more like red wine than Brunello. Well mannered but with very aggressive (added?) acid on the end. (JR)
The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is an attractive, mid-weight offering laced with perfumed red cherries, spices, tobacco and underbrush. The aromas and flavors come together quite nicely in this understated, elegant Brunello. The wine gains pretty inner sweetness with time in the glass, while fine, silky tannins caress the palate on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. Because barrel samples are not finished wines they can spoil rather quickly, which is what most likely happened to both bottles I tasted earlier in the year
