The 2016 Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes includes 50% whole-bunch fruit and 75% new oak, the latter rather dominating the aromatics at the moment and suppressing the fruit behind it. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannin, the new oak speaking loudly (actually not a million miles way from Sylvie Esmomin's that I tasted earlier that morning). I would give this three or four years in bottle to fully subsume the oak.

Nicolas Potel is one of Burgundy’s most talented and connected winemakers. He created Maison Roche de Bellene, the négoce arm of Domaine de Bellene, in 2008, using his extensive network in the region to source top-quality fruit for an "haute couture" négociant operation.
