1988 Cabernet Sauvignon St Helena

(13.2%; from the smallest crop of all of these vintages, according to Forman): Medium red. Somewhat funky aromas of redcurrant, leather and eucalyptus. Round on entry, but the redcurrant, leather and green pepper flavors are a bit disjointed owing to spiky acidity. Nicely balanced and fine-grained but the substantial dusty tannins turn a bit dry on the green-edged, leathery finish. Drink up.
