The 2018 Ovide Jack's Vineyard is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Syrah; the Cabernet was fermented as whole berry, and the Syrah was fermented as whole cluster. The nose begins with a mix of both fresh and delightfully ripe berry essences with a soft nuance of rustic minerality and French oak. Medium-bodied and with 13.5% alcohol, the palate shows impeccable balance with freshness and mineral tension before displaying soft baking spice tones of vanilla, cardamom madeleines and nutmeg that sway with elements of pepper, baked earth and blackberry skin. The wine concludes with a long-lingering finish that continues to evolve in the mouth for moments after the wine has left the palate. It's a delicious wine that honors Charles Smith's father. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon / Syrah Jack's Vineyard comes from a site outside of Walla Walla and is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Syrah. A spicy, complex nose of ripe blackcurrants, green tobacco, menthol, spice, and new leather gives way to a rich, medium to full-bodied blend with a great mid-palate, loads of sweet fruit, a lush, opulent texture, and a great finish. It has some classic Rocks gaminess and exotic notes, yet it still leads with its fruit.
