Good deep red-ruby. Exotic raspberry and sassafras on the oaky nose. Creamy-sweet and lush, with outstanding density and sweetness of fruit; became increasingly liqueur-like with air while retaining its sappy quality. Finishes very long and vibrant, with substantial ripe tannins. Like most of Laurent's 2005, this will require time to absorb its exotic cola and spicy oak tones.

Very old vines that at one stage belonged to the Jayer family before Henri J’s era according to Laurent. Very very fine but majestic too – opulent and juicy. Sweet yet with good structure. Kerpow! What seduction! (JR)
The 2005 Vosne Romanee Les Suchots Vieilles Vignes – of which, like the Beaux Monts, there will be a relatively generous 125 cases – is slightly less overtly rich than that wine, but with a sleek, refined, subtly flower-tinged liqueur-like fruit character, in this case of black currant and cherry. Smoked meat as well as vanilla cream character and subtle caramelization from the wood are nicely balanced by bitter notes of cherry pit and chalky minerality. This Pinot’s polished, creamy length is irresistible – finessed rather than flamboyant. A Patrick Lesec Selection, Paris Fax 011 33 4 66 37 67 23; Martin Scott Wines, Ltd., Lake Success, NY Tel. Deep red-ruby. Very bright nose dominated by dark berries. Like liquid silk on the palate, with a creamy flavor of raspberry liqueur. Softer than the Beaux-Monts and perhaps a bit less complex and vibrant but plenty concentrated. The broad tannins arrive very late.
