2021 Vaso Cabernet Sauvignon

Originally developed as a destination for young vines and just sold in South Korea, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Vaso now incorporates non-estate fruit (since 2018), adding sources from Atlas Peak, Calistoga and Saint Helena to the blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% each Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Made in a combination of stainless steel, concrete and wooden vats, there are more than 4,000 cases of this well-priced offering. It's a bit less concentrated than the Onda or the single-vineyard wines, but it remains a nicely textured, medium to full-bodied offering that boasts ample cherry fruit, attractive mint shadings and an elegant, lingering finish.

Made by the team at Dana Estate and a wine that's normally in the range of 4,000 to 6,000 cases, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is a smoking value and should also be relatively easy to find in the market. Darker currants, black cherries, leafy tobacco, violets, and hints of chocolate all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, round and supple, with a great finish.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Vaso is gorgeous. Crushed flowers, sweet red cherry fruit and spice are all beautifully lifted. This mid-weight, nuanced Cabernet is all class. Best of all, the 2021 will be a joy to drink young. A burst of sweet red fruit and blood orange lingers on the vibrant finish. Lovely.
