Punteggio 92+/100 · Da bere 2015-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2014

Lemon, white flowers and bright saline notes meld together in the 2011 Chardonnay Peay Vineyards Estate. An attractive, mid-weight wine the 2011 impresses for its layered personality. Within the context of the year, the 2011 shows considerable depth allied to structure. It could also use another year in bottle to fully come together.

Anapolis, 5 m from coast, at c 700 ft. Struggles with the fog. Full malo. c 25% new oak and 11 months in barrel and more lees work than in most of the wines in this line up. 240 c/s produced. Extremely mineral nose combined with riper fruit character. Oak and fruit combining to give a broader overall effect. More classic CA. Oak more evident on the nose than on the palate. Fresh and quite big but not forfeiting refinement in a more leesy style. (JH)

Vivid gold. A sexy, highly perfumed bouquet evokes nectarine, honeysuckle, orange and smoky minerals. Juicy, penetrating citrus fruit and pear flavors are given lift and spine by tangy minerality and become more pungent with air. Finishes with excellent clarity, length and lingering pear and mineral notes. Andy Peay told me that about 70% of the fruit for this wine came from the Peay estate vines.
