Saturated ruby-red color. Reduced black fruit aromas complicated by exotic dried fruits and orange peel, along with a faintly feral quality. Ripe, juicy and concentrated, with considerable power to the blackberry and spice flavors. In a dry style, finishing with granular, palate-coating tannins and firm spine.

The 2005 Petite Syrah Library Vineyard is impeccable. Beautiful blueberry and blackberry fruit infused with charcoal and licorice aromas jump from the glass of this opaque purple-colored effort. Full-bodied and stunningly rich with sweet tannin and good acidity, it should evolve easily for two decades. Previously recommended: As indicated last year, 2004 was a terrific vintage for Turley Zinfandels. If they can still be found, I would opt for purchasing them over their lighter 2005 counterparts.
