Bright violet color. Complex bouquet of dried red fruits, garrigue , peppery spices and smoked meat, with a sexy floral note emerging slowly. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering nicely concentrated, appealingly sweet cherry and redcurrant flavors. Dusty tannins give shape to the long, spicy finish and meld smoothly with the wine's juicy fruit.

The 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is beautiful, with textbook, slightly old-school notes of saddle leather, garrigue, incense and sweet kirsch and blackberry fruit. Made from a blend of 60% Grenache and 10% each of Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault and Counoise, it still has some tannin to integrate, but it has a solid, medium-bodied, classically styled palate feel with lots to like. It should drink nicely through 2021.
Deep ruby. Spicy redcurrant and strawberry aromas are complemented by notes of peppery spices and show a slightly high-toned quality. Lively and precise on the palate, offering gently sweet red fruit flavors and a hint of licorice. Finishes with very good clarity and spicy persistence, leaving a subtle smoky note behind.
Vineyard soil: galets, sand, clay-limestone. Lieu-dit Cabrières. 35% Grenache Blanc, 20% Clairette, 10% Roussanne, 35% Bourboulenc. Water white. Intense and quite alcoholic but with acid too. Powdery and quite heady. (JR)
