One of the latest sites that Donelan picks, the 2022 Chardonnay Genevieve's Block Devoto Vineyard is bright yellow-hued and reveals lovely, focused, floral aromas of white pepper, crushed stones, white peach, and linen. Medium-bodied, it has a more linear, mouthwatering feel and a crystalline salinity on the finish. Drink 2025-2037. Started by Joe Donelan in 2000 in partnership with Pax Mahle of Pax Wine Cellars, Donelan changed its name to Donelan Family Wines in 2009. Based in Santa Rosa, it remains a committed producer of mostly Rhône-inspired wines under the leadership of Director of Winemaking and Viticulture David Milner. Donelan’s sons, Cushing (Director of Marketing) and Tripp (Director of Sales), also own and operate the brand and work with vineyard sites across Sonoma County. Tripp’s Block is their only non-Sonoma wine, the Pinot Noir grown at 2000-feet elevation in Perli Vineyard on the Mendocino Ridge, six miles from the Pacific Ocean.

The 2022 Chardonnay Genevieve's Block is fabulous. In fact, it is one of the very best Chardonnays I have tasted here. Ample and explosive, with notable depth, the 2022 is seriously impressive. The dynamic energy and breadth here are both compelling. Pear, apricot, chamomile, tangerine peel and exotic floral top notes soar from the glass. The decision to extend time in barrel to 17 months was spot on.
