Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2026-2035, Kristaps Karklins, Wine Advocate, Sep 2025

Derived principally from the 2021 vintage vinified in tank and complemented by 28% of the 2020 harvest matured in oak, the latest release of the NV Blanc de Blancs Le Cotet originates from the lower-lying, chalkier sector of the vineyard in front of Lassaigne's winery, where scarcely 15 centimeters of topsoil overlay the bedrock. True to style, it also incorporates approximately 10% of already-bottled Champagnes that have been disgorged and reintegrated into tank. Disgorged à la volée in July 2025, it bursts from the glass with scents of nashi pear, lemon oil and green apple, mingling with pastry nuances and framed by youthful reduction. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, incisive and precise, with a crystalline core of fruit and ample extract, underpinned by mouthwatering acidity and culminating in a long, saline finish.

100% Chardonnay. Single vineyard: 0.6 ha (1.5 acres), from oldest 45-year-old vines. Some oak fermented, some stainless steel, range of vintages blended. Malo done. Aged 20 months on lees in bottle. Deliberately reduced mousse. Dosage 0 g/l. Deep straw. Really rich, evolved nose. Mouth-filling and only moderate mouse. A strong statement in a bone-dry corset with some mushroom notes. Persistent. Rather demandingly dry. Hint of Krug about this. (JR)

The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Le Cotet is a 100% single vineyard Chardonnay from 50-year-old vines on very poor chalk soil. Fermented in 80% stainless steel and 20% 228-liter barrels, this cuvée is based 90% on the 2010 harvest, whereas the other 10% consist of the vintages 2007, 2005 and 2002. The wine shows a beautifully pure, complex, iodine and chalky bouquet mingled with ripe apple and citrus aromas. Full-flavored and full-bodied on the palate, this is a pure and lingeringly salty, very mineral and well structured Champagne of great purity and expression. It's very long and bone dry, of great finesse and elegance. This stringent and grippy Cotet is still very young but shall develop well over the next ten years easily, probably even 15 years.

Very complex blend of vintages of Chardonnay including some pretty old wine. Very complex and tangy. Champagne for champagne nerds but very rewarding. (JR)
