Note di degustazione
Glass-staining purple. Fresh dark berry and floral aromas are complicated by notes of pipe tobacco, allspice, mocha and vanilla bean. Juicy, finely etched dark berry flavors are framed by velvety tannins, gaining sweetness and a smoky quality with air while maintaining vivacity and focus. For a rich wine this is impressively lithe, offering good finishing clarity and lingering spiciness.

The 2007 Reiver Shiraz is opaque purple-colored with legs that ooze down the glass. Aromas of cedar, spice box, mineral, espresso, and wild blueberry are followed by an intense, sweetly fruited, lengthy wine that is just a bit more narrow than the superb vintages of 2004, 2005, and 2006. Mitolo, which began operations in 1999, is a partnership of the Mitolo family and winemaker Ben Glaetzer. The focus is on McLaren Vale fruit from Willunga, the most southern part of the district. The 2007 vintage with its drought conditions and decreased production have resulted in wines from Mitolo that are merely outstanding rather than sublime. The value-priced Jester series was reviewed in Issue 178. Importer: Vintus LLC, Pleasantville, NY; www.mitolowines.com.au
