Note di degustazione
Sourced from a single parcel of 50-year-old vines in Aÿ and vinified for a full two years in new oak barrels, Henri Giraud’s 2019 Coteaux Champenois Aÿ Rouge Cuvée des Froides Terres unfurls from the glass with a bouquet of black plum, red cherry and exotic spices, delicately framed by toasty oak. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, revealing a rather austere, oak-inflected character, underpinned by vibrant acidity and grippy structuring tannins, culminating in a perfumed finish, though it leans toward the drier end of the spectrum.

The 2019 Coteaux Champenois Froids Terres is quite promising, but the fruit feels attenuated, perhaps by the 100% new oak and/or 40% whole clusters. I would prefer to drink this sooner rather than later, as there are some hints of aromatic development. The tannins feel a bit rough today.
