Note di degustazione
The 2019 Champagne Grand Cru Haute Couture Extra Brut exhibits purity and clarity in its notes of lemon, saline, and pure white peach. Structured and well-defined, it has a chiseled and compact tension with a refined and pinpoint mousse. It has a long finish, refreshing mouthwatering acidity, and a crystalline cut. Sourced from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger, aged in 500-liter barrels, with 2 grams per liter dosage, 635 magnums were produced. (2019 was only done in magnum.)

The 2019 Le Mesnil-sur-Oger Haute Couture, tasted from magnum, was vinified in 350- and 500-liter barrels (25% new, the remainder seeing one wine) and disgorged in December 2024 with a dosage of two grams per liter. As usual, it derives from two to three parcels, which vary each year, using fruit sourced from Pertois-Moriset, though Savart collaborates on the harvest date despite not farming the vineyards. In the glass, it reveals an enticing bouquet of white flowers, peach, yellow apple and brioche. Full-bodied, concentrated and elegantly muscular, with notable intensity, it offers a more seamless and layered profile than the 2020 vintage, showcasing the vintage’s strengths in all their glory.
The 2019 Extra-Brut Haute Couture Le Mesnil sur Oger is one of the best wines I have tasted from Fred Savart. Towering in its intensity, the 2019 captures the purest essence of Mesnil in this vintage. Tropical fruit, lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers and butter all soar out of the glass. The malolactic fermentation is blocked (as it is in most of these Champagnes), and yet the natural radiance of the year is very much on show. The 2019 brilliantly straddles the line between still and sparkling wine. I would be thrilled to own it. What a wine! Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: February 2024.
