Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2026-2040, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2026

A classy, elegant second wine from this brilliant Saint-Émilion estate, the 2023 Croix De Beausejour is based on 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc and was aged in 30% new oak with the rest in concrete and once-used barrels. Juicy red and black fruits, spring flowers, and graphite all emerge from the bouquet, and it's medium-bodied and beautifully textured on the palate, with fine tannins, terrific purity, and a good finish. This layered and outstanding effort will shine any time over the coming 15 years. Drink 2026-2040.

The 2023 Croix de Beauséjour has a fragrant nose: brambly red fruit, light wild hedgerow scents and pressed flowers, hints of pencil box emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied, with a dash of black pepper on the entry. Fresh, light and tensile, this has fine linearity with a residual pepperiness that lingers in the mouth.

Chalky depth, with black plums, berries, hazelnuts, dark chocolate and graphite on the nose. Fruity on the palate, with a medium to full body, tense tannins, dark plum and berry flavors and a long, juicy finish. Drinkable now, but better from 2027.

There is ample freshness here. You sense this in the nose, with its black raspberries, and flowery presence, as well as on the medium-bodied palate, with its vibrant, red fruits, peppery spice, and refined, minty-edged finish. This should be delicious on release. Drink from 2026-2034.
