Made with certified organic fruit, the Gulfi 2017 NeroBaronj is another single-vineyard expression of Nero d'Avola with a more accessible personality. This time the fruit comes from a three-hectare parcel with calcareous clay soils at 30 meters above sea level. This wine reveals rich fruit concentration with dark garnet coloring. The wine reflects the saturated character and power of this warm vintage, radiating with ripe blackberry, black cherry, spice, tar and black olive. Albeit extra dense, layered and a touch sweet in this vintage, this wine remains very faithful to this mighty Sicilian grape. Try it with lamb chops on the grill. Production is 9,400 bottles.

The 2017 NeroBaronj seduces with its zesty display of crushed cherries, sweet exotic spices and dried roses. This is soft and round in feel, offset by bright acids and tart wild berry fruits, which creates a sweet and sour impression toward the close. Energy remains high, even as chalky mineral notes and wild herbs come forward; yet the end note here is, without a doubt, a lasting echo of vivid citrus-tinged blackberry. The NeroBaronj, a varietal Nero d'Avola, is a crowd-pleaser.
