My previous encounter with the 2014 Le Moulin during primeur left me with a question mark instead of a score. Now in bottle, I still have reservations about this Pomerol. The nose suggests that the fruit was not fully ripe, an underlying greenness poking through the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of sour cherry on the entry, good depth and volume, but it feels "pushed" and a little over-egged on the finish.

Last sentence is incomplete. The 2014 Le Moulin has turned out beautifully. The high %age of Cabernet Franc gives the wine a very distinctive aromatic and flavor profile. The 2014 Le Moulin is opulent, full-throttle and unapologetically ripe, yet the high percentage of Cabernet Franc (40%) kicks in to give the wine a measure of aromatic intrigue and lift. Violets, crème de cassis, mocha, spices and juniper berries meld into the exuberant finish.
Healthy purplish crimson. Rather simple elderberry fruit on the nose. Marked acidity and a little greenness that I suspect will always dominate this wine. (JR)
