A trace of wood frames very expansive and perfumed black fruit as well as big, dense, concentrated, complex flavors that exhibit plenty of volume plus a persistent, sappy and structured backend that offers fine finishing balance. Excellent quality that should age for every bit of a decade and a half.

Intense cassis-like aromas can be discerned in the nose of the boisterous 2001 Echezeaux. Medium-bodied, plush, rich, and dense, it coats the taster’s palate with cedar, cigars, black cherries, and blackberries. Deep red, the most saturated of these 2001s. Reduced, sauvage nose hints at black cherry and game. Dense and thick, with lovely sweetness and inner-mouth perfume. Conveys an impression of energy without excess weight. A wine of outstanding verve, finishing with substantial but noble tannins and superb persistence. An Echezeaux of real grand cru class.
