Leading off the 2011s, which is a vintage that yielded lots of forward, yet superficial efforts, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape les Hautes Brusquières Cuvee Spéciale shows a downright Provencal, charming style as well as full-bodied richness, light tannin and perfumed aromatics of garrigue, dried flowers and spice. Where a lot of wines in this vintage lack a mid-palate, this is impeccably balanced and has terrific depth.

Bright ruby-red. Black raspberry, Asian spices, lavender and smoked meat on the highly perfumed nose. Juicy, penetrating and seamless, offering intense red and dark berry flavors that pick up a smoky nuance with air. Closes on a youthfully tannic note, with excellent thrust and floral length.
Vivid ruby. Powerful spice- and smoke-accented aromas of dark berries and cherry. Shows very good clarity and lift to its black raspberry and floral pastille flavors, which gain weight with air. Chewy tannins come on late and add grip to a powerful, incisive finish.
