The Château Moncets estate is the Ch de Chambrun's oldest vineyard, which is why they have kept the name, which refers to Général de Moncets, who purchased it in 1872. In 2012, they bought the Château Moncets from the last descendant of the Moncets family, the Baron Louis Gabriel de Jerphanion. Vines and cellars have been revived. 86% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc on clay, vines aged around 45 years. Aged 16 months in French oak, 25% new. Ripe, plummy black fruit, blackberries too – very Merlot. There's also a note of vanilla and sweet spice that points to the oak. On the palate, chewy, still surprisingly oaky and just a little bit hard. Needs time to mellow. And certainly needs a meaty meal to accompany it. A little bit of heat at the back of the palate. (JH)

The 2017 Moncets is plump and juicy, with good fruit intensity that gives the wine its sense of immediacy. Super-ripe red cherry, chocolate and sweet spice all meld together nicely. Floral overtones add brightness to this mid-weight Lalande de Pomerol.
The 2017 Moncets has a simple red cherry and cranberry scented bouquet that is rather monochromatic but at least offers some freshness. The palate is candied on the entry, a Lalande de Pomerol with a lot of extraction that results in some astringent tannin on the finish. Maybe it will find some flashiness and fruité during its barrel maturation?
Dark plum, chocolate, leather, menthol and spice flesh out nicely in the 2017 Moncets. Pliant, racy and inviting, the 2017 has quite a bit to offer in an early drinking style. It would be nice to see the oak better integrated chips
