Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2028, Jeb Dunnuck, Oct 2024

All Mourvèdre, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Tintot has a similar deep ruby/plum hue as well as a gorgeous nose of spiced red and black fruits, smoked meats, new leather, and resinous Mediterranean herbs. It's another rich, full-bodied wine from this team that brings beautiful depth of fruit, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. It too is going to need 4-5 years of bottle age and should be one of the longest-lived wines in the vintage.

The 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Tintot, entirely crafted from Mourvèdre planted in galets roulés soils, exhales a vibrant, powerful bouquet of dark cherries, iris, lilac, flowers, pepper, dried plum and chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, dense and spicy, it's layered and concentrated with a fleshy core of fruit and structured tannins (as required by Mourvèdre) and a long, rich finish. This is an elegant expression of Mourvèdre, matured 85% in concrete tanks and 15% in used barrels.

85% Mourvèdre, 15% Grenache. Vinified in concrete tanks. Aged in old oak barrels (15%) and concrete tanks (85%). Certified organic and biodynamic. Tank/cask sample. Tasted blind. The nose is a little shy. On the palate, some jammy fruits; the alcohol is quite present on the mid palate. A core of sweet and dense dark fruits and a ripe, layered finish. Rich and opulent style that needs some time. (AC)

The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Tinto is 85% Mourvèdre and 15% Grenache that saw a tiny amount in oak with the majority in beton tanks. It offers more red and black fruits, graphite, chocolate, and assorted meaty notes as well as a powerful, full-bodied style on the palate. With ample ripe tannins, remarkable purity, and a great finish, it's another thrilling wine from this team. This fabulous domaine in Châteauneuf du Pape is increasingly being run by the children of the brother and sister pair of Christine Laget and Daniel Chaussy, with Christine still managing the business and Daniel providing plenty of oversight in the winery. Located in the northern portion of Châteauneuf du Pape, this estate makes a single white Châteauneuf du Pape, a handful of Côtes du Rhônes, and four Châteauneuf du Pape reds. The classic Châteauneuf du Pape is largely Grenache yet includes plenty of Mourvèdre and is brought up in concrete. The Famille Chaussy Selection is based on 70% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, and the rest Syrah that’s from the Palestor lieu-dit and is destemmed and raised all in concrete. The Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Du Quet is more Grenache-dominated but often includes a splash of Mourvèdre. While raised mostly in demi-muids in the past, it’s brought up today in a mix of demi-muids, concrete tanks, and concrete eggs. Lastly, the Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Tinto is the Mourvèdre-dominated release, and trust me on this, a great vintage of this cuvée will give Beaucastel’s Hommage A Jacques Perrin a run for its money. These are brilliant wines that consistently find a place in my cellar.
