Only produced in the greatest years, the 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Imperiale (from a parcel of primarily Grenache vines planted in 1902) represents the essence of Chateauneuf du Pape in its black cherry liqueur-like notes. Backward, but full-bodied, fresh, and pure, this dense, chewy, powerful 2000 remains tightly-knit. Plenty of luscious fruit is present, but the wine needs 3-4 more years of cellaring.
