The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges La Richemone 1er Cru includes 50% whole bunch (compare that to say, Pascal Mugneret, who used 100%). The bouquet is, again, quite stemmy at the moment, with dark berry fruit, stewed black tea, light forest floor scents and tobacco emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry. It is quite spicy and peppery, though the stems are nicely embroidered on the finish. Good potential.

0.9 ha (2.2 acres) of which 20% was planted in 1924. Previous to this 2021 purchase, fruit from this parcel was purchased and vinified by Christophe Perrot-Minot. Cask sample. Mid ruby. Deep red fruits, raspberry and cherry. Slightly ferrous on the palate showing the dark, savoury depth of Nuits-St-Georges. Concentrated and firm, so clearly not from Vosne-Romanée, but showing greater aromatic verve than so many young Nuits. (MH)
