The 2023 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos de Champs Martin Cuvée Carline is the most introverted of Lorenzon's reds this year, unwinding in the glass to offer up notes of dark cherries mingled with spices, licorice and bitter chocolate. Full-bodied, dense and muscular, it's serious and concentrated, with an almost rhodanien personality, concluding with an iris-inflected finish. This will require patience.
