Certified biodynamic. Cask sample. Mid crimson. Richer and darker-fruited than the Domaine Pierre Labet, Beaune Clos du Dessus des Marconnets tasted alongside. Very ripe fruit flavours, chewy, grainy texture. Embryonic. Just enough freshness for balance. A big wine that needs time. (JH)

The 2023 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru derives from younger vines as well as six small specific parcels throughout the Clos, and a higher proportion was destemmed than in the past. Offering up aromas of red berries, plums and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a rich core of fruit and supple structuring tannins.
The 2023 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Cuvée Classique is picked plot by plot, with some destemmed and some whole cluster depending on the parcel—around 50% on average in the final blend. It has an attractive nose, displaying a mixture of red and black fruit, a little damp loam and light espresso scents in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. There is not as much depth and grip as the previous vintage, but it's lightly spiced with a touch of black pepper on the aftertaste. This is delightful and probably on par with the 2022, albeit in a different, more open style.
