Punteggio 90-93/100 · Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2025

Note: from 4 separate parcels that total .41 ha; 80% whole cluster. An exuberantly floral-suffused nose features notes of red currant and the sauvage along with subtle spice hints. Once again there is a simply gorgeous mouthfeel to the strikingly textured middle weight flavors that also exude a subtle minerality on the dusty, moderately austere, very firm and lingering finale where the only nit is a touch of warmth.*Burghound Outstanding!*

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru comes from a site with 70- to 80-year-old vines, worked by horse as it is not accessible by tractor (this has been done since 2008). This has a slightly reductive bouquet, though there is still a sizable concentration evident here. The palate is medium-bodied with a powerful opening, slightly confit-like red fruit, hints of marmalade and blood orange and a slightly more exotic, licorice-tinged finish. Very fine.(NM)

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux has turned out very well, offering up aromas of cherries, sweet red berries, orange zest and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's pure, precise and floral.
