The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses is terrific, wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries and cherries mingled with rose petals and blood orange. Medium to full-bodied, with a deep, cool core of fruit, suave tannins and a long, perfumed finish, this is well worth seeking out.
A slightly more sombre crimson purple. Evident whole bunches with crushed strawberries. Softly sensual on the palate, builds nicely to the back, some rose petals too. Very long and classy after all. Softer than some but with luscious appeal.
Cask sample. Real sweetness on the nose and front – flowers and nougat and Turkish delight, dried rose petals and hibiscus. A jigsaw puzzle of flavours and soft yet emphatic, curl-curve-cut tannins. This has real glow. Persistent glow and sweetness hazing into ethereal, fine-haze bitterness. Lovely stemmy savouriness and herb stems woven into the tannins. The weave of tannins is superb. A beauty. Lift and soar on the finish. (TC)
