Peter Michael has been sourcing Pinot Noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands since the late 1990s, before they planted their own vineyards on the Sonoma Coast. The 2019 Pinot Noir Le Moulin Rouge (from the Pisoni Vineyard) boasts complex herbal and floral elements, like beets and roses, black tea and orris root, plus wonderfully ripe cherries. Full-bodied, round and ripe, with layers of silky tannins and a lingering finish, it's the whole package.

I loved the 2019 Château Le Moulin from barrel, and it doesn't disappoint now from bottle. Deep ruby/plum-hued, with a ripe, sexy nose of black raspberries, blueberries, iron, chocolate, and baking spices, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a round, opulent mouthfeel, present tannins, and a great finish. It already offers pleasure yet will evolve gracefully for 10-15 years, if not longer.
The 2019 Pinot Noir Le Moulin Rouge Pisoni Vineyard is superb. Rich, creamy and expressive, the Moulin Rouge offers a striking expression of the Pisoni vineyard. It has a bit more volume and resonance than the Sonoma Coast Pinot. It is one the most refined, sensual wines I have tasted from this highly regarded Santa Lucia Highlands site.
