Glass-staining ruby. Oak-spiced black and blue fruits on the nose and palate. Broad, fleshy and sweet, with impressive depth, but the oak is pretty boisterous today. Closes smooth and long, with firm tannic grip and a strong echo of vanillin oak and mocha. Hasn't changed much since this time last year and I still have my worries about the lumber here.

Slightly more rich and textured, with hints of its modern elevage in its raspberry, vanilla, graphite and floral-tinged bouquet, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Des Vieilles Vignes is 75% Grenache, 17% Syrah and 8% Mourvedre that spent 15 months in barrel. Medium-bodied, with solid richness and depth, it’s an outstanding bottle of wine to enjoy over the coming 6-7 years. Drink now-2020. Various American importers, including: T. Deep ruby. Blackberry, blueberry, vanilla and woodsmoke on the fragrant nose. Juicy and appealingly sweet but not especially concentrated, with fresh dark fruit flavors and a good lashing of oak spice. Finishes with slightly dry, gripping tannins and a lingering vanilla note. Does this wine have the depth of fruit to stand up to the wood?
