Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2026-2036, Neal Martin, May 2025

Bottled mid-December, the 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois, from vines planted in 1953, is 100% de-stemmed using a pied de cuve at the start of fermentation. The nose has kicked in nicely since I tasted it from barrel. Plump red cherries and blackcurrant scents seem to have developed a little more va-va-voom. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, very pure and silky in style, just a touch of sour cherry imparting tension. With fine persistence towards the finish, this is a delightful "young king."

Punteggio 88-90/100 · Da bere 2025-2034, Neal Martin, Vinous, Jan 2025

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois has a subtle wet clay/potter's wheel tincture on the nose, opening nicely with minerally red fruit. The palate is well balanced and lightly spiced with an edgy opening and fine acidity, perhaps without the density on the finish that the 2022 showed. It's sure to be a more early-drinking cuvée.

Very bright crimson. Sumptuously ripe nose. Transparent impression; feather-light. Only suitable for those whose ideal burgundy is this lighter style. (JR)
