Tasted blind for Mission Blind Tasting series. Medium lemon. Neutral – very ripe apple and pear but without overt sweetness and with a light spice – seems Alsatian on the nose but not incredibly characterful. The 13.5% alcohol and oily texture are in keeping with Alsace as is the lightly spicy, yeasty finish. If it is Alsace, this is a dry modern style that doesn’t quite reach the complexity of Grand Cru but is still an absolutely lovely wine. Added after reveal: a very good wine but with more ripeness and spiciness than I think is characteristic of Italy – not great for blind tasting. (SCJ)

The Elena Walch 2023 Alto Adige Pinot Grigio Vigna Castel Ringberg is a fresh and zesty wine with minty apple, lemon and white mountain flower. It proceeds with a fresh and lean mouthfeel that could work against fried vegetable tempura. Production is 30,000 bottles.
The 2023 Pinot Grigio Vigna Castel Ringberg is understated in the glass as hints of freshly sliced pear and wet stone form its bouquet. It is sweetly focused and energetic with ripe pit fruits and an inner air of mint that adds lift. It cleans up well, remaining crisp while leaving a citrus twang to resonate.
