1983 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve

(13.3% alcohol; 32% Chabot, 29% State Lane, 39% St. Helena; harvested between September 15 and October 18): Medium red with an amber rim. Plum, spices, leather and earth on the nose, with a hint of pruney maderization. Plum on entry, then rather strong acidity gives a dry edge to the flavors of dried fruits and fig jam. Finishes with dusty tannins and a slightly tart quality. Has intensity but going nowhere at this point.
