The 2019 Pouget is more gamey and savory on the nose than its peers, with damp earth and subtle meat juice aromas, a pinch of black pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, plenty of black, graphite-laced fruit that cloaks that firm structure under the bonnet. Fine precision on the somewhat bold finish. This Margaux is a keeper. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

Tasted blind. Sweet nose, sweet palate entry, soft Merlot influence. Some found a lot of oak. Already quite a pleasure to drink, but not a long-liver. (JR)
Tar on the nose, rich seams of cassis and bilberry fruit, with fennel and bitter chocolate that squeezes the frame a little too tight on the finish.
The 2019 Pouget has quite intense blackberry, briary and crushed iris scents on the nose, the new oak well integrated. The palate is very impressive with firm tannins framing mineral black fruit, touches of pencil lead evident on the structured finish. Blind tastings prove that this Margaux has significantly improved in recent years and this will continue that trend.
