Note di degustazione
Ripe black cherries, plums, tobacco, damp earth, and a kiss of chocolate all emerge from the 2021 Château Vieux Maillet, a ripe medium-bodied, round, impressive Pomerol that has considerable elegance and purity. Based on 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, it already offers pleasure yet will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and, I suspect, have a solid decade of prime drinking.

The 2021 Vieux Maillet has struggled to achieve much improvement on the nose since I tasted it from barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with sour cherries and Christmas cake on the entry, as well as a splash of soy, though it attenuates toward a very bitter, slightly green finish.
The 2021 Vieux Maillet is a very beautiful wine. It is perhaps a bit forward aromatically, but texturally it is quite attractive. I would prefer to drink this sooner rather than later. Crushed red fruit, mocha, spice and new leather all run through.
