Blanched almonds, lemon pith and white grapefruit on the nose, with some chalk. Deliciously mineral, intense and salty on the palate with a medium to full body. Lively acidity, but creamy and caressing at the same time. Drink now or hold.

The 2021 Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat Les Quarts, which comes from the Bret's prized plots of 50-80 years old east-facing vines, has a beautifully-defined bouquet with light estuarine/oyster shell scents percolating through the malic fruit. The palate is very well balanced with plenty of substance (more than the preceding Longeays), fanning out wonderfully on the finish. Proper Pouilly-Fuissé.
Tank sample. Rather light nose after the young-vine cuvée! Then very juicy and cool and refreshing. Probably difficult to put in the Mâconnais if served blind. Almost painful acidity! (JR)
The 2021 Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat Les Quarts was tasted from its three components, "Clocheton", "Bas" and "Hauts". The former provides the weight and the slightly resinous, dried flower aromatics. The "Clocheton" has a heavy reduction that the Brets look for at this stage, with hints of menthol on the aftertaste. Meanwhile, "Haut" has the mineralité on the nose and a sense of frisson on the finish. The overall blend looks to be a winner.
